Experience a bit of bliss whenever you taste one of Savory’s innovative creations. At Savory, you are guaranteed a warm, inviting atmosphere and a great meal prepared by committed chefs who have a passion for what they do. It just doesn’t get much better than that!

Our Story 

Chefs Steven Stackley, Rhett Tanner, and Hailey Tanner all met in 2001, shortly after graduating from Johnson & Wales University. Working out of their home, Rhett & Hailey created the catering company Sushi by Rhett in March of 2008. With Steven’s help, the trio became Charleston’s only sushi bar on wheels. On Wednesday evenings, Sushi by Rhett teamed up with Savory Market for “Sushi at Savory”. In early August of 2008, the group at Sushi by Rhett and Traci, of Savory Market, decided to combine talents and… 

On August 13, 2008, TUFF, LLC (Totally Unique Fantastic Food), dba Savory Sushi and Catering, was created. 

The group began by making renovations at Savory, to include new flooring, lighting, ceiling tiles, and paint. Renowned local artist, Douglas Panzone created the stunning dragon mural, while Matt Bolt designed the Buddha wall and bamboo embellishments throughout the dining room. On October 3, 2008, Savory welcomed their first guests. 

Savory is fortunate to have the creative genius of Sous Chef Steven Stackley, who came on board in December 2008. Hailey, Rhett, and Steven worked diligently to create a diverse menu highlighting their innovative sushi, tapas, Dragon Plates, and decadent desserts. In addition to the in-house menu, Savory Market’s idea of Gourmet to Go casseroles was expanded and included as part of this new venture.  From Rhett and Hailey’s continued leadership and admirable work ethic to Steven’s panache for culinary adventure and our servers effervescent personalities, a warm, inviting atmosphere is created for all of our guests.
